
Welcome back and Happy 2011! After our first and very successful SEAC meeting of the second semester, it's time to start back up with the blog! I hope everyone kept up with environmental news over the break.
As for environmental news around the world, scientists have discovered a curious connection between climate change and the fall of Rome. I doubt very much that many of your professors pointed to tree ring data when discussing the numerous factors leading to the demise of the Roman empire. However, Science has just published a study suggesting that tree ring data from A.D. 250 to 550 shows unusual fluctuations in the climate that may have caused the instability of many of Rome's important natural resources.
